Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck Surgery in South Florida

Growing older has its perks, but a lax protruding tummy isn’t one of them. Many people who diet and exercise for health and fitness find that their midsection is an area that is particularly difficult to firm up, especially after childbearing or significant weight loss.

Tummy tuck surgery in South Florida with Dr. Robert Cooper is an effective means of toning and tightening a belly that has loose, hanging skin and lax muscle tone. Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, can eliminate excess skin and fat while tightening abdominal muscles, creating the flat, slim stomach that we all to associate with youth and fitness.

Is a Tummy Tuck in South Florida Right for Me?

Dr. Cooper performs abdominoplasty for South Florida residents who are unhappy with the lax appearance and tone of their abdominal region. Women who have had children, as well as men and women who have undergone significant weight loss, often find that they are left with abdominal muscles and skin that remain stretched and loose, and pockets of remaining fat. Only surgery can repair these concerns and return the body to its more youthful contour.

Your Tummy Tuck Surgery in South Florida

Dr. Cooper performs both mini abdominoplasty and traditional abdominoplasty for his patients at Cooper Plastic Surgery. For most patients, traditional abdominoplasty is the approach that will provide the best results. For a few patients, particularly those whose concerns are mainly in the area below the bellybutton, a mini abdominoplasty may be an option.

Traditional Abdominoplasty

A full abdominoplasty reshapes the abdominal area by removing the excess skin of the abdomen and tightening lax muscles of the abdominal wall. The incision for a traditional tummy tuck runs along the lower abdomen, between the two pelvic bones, and may be hidden by a bathing suit or underwear. A second incision around the bellybutton is required for removal of the excess skin in the upper abdomen.

Excess skin and fat are removed, so that the remaining skin will drape nicely over the muscles of the abdomen. Your body will look more proportional following this procedure, giving you a more youthful contour and profile. Dr. Cooper uses a “pain pump” in every abdominoplasty surgery, greatly reducing post-operative discomfort.

Mini Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty)

A mini abdominoplasty in South Florida re-sculpts and tones the lower abdominal area by removing loose skin and tightening the muscles below the bellybutton. In a mini tummy tuck, the pelvic incision is shorter, and the second incision around the navel is not necessary. The remaining skin is re-draped and positioned to improve the abdominal contour. Sometimes, a combination of liposuction and the mini tummy tuck is the best option for achieving the look you desire. Additionally, Dr. Cooper uses a “pain pump” in every abdominoplasty surgery, greatly reducing post-operative discomfort.

Recovery and Results

Abdominoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. However, many of Dr. Cooper’s abdominoplasty patients choose to spend the days immediately following their discharge from our surgery center at our Pavilion aftercare. Qualified professionals at the Pavilion are specially trained to provide the optimal postoperative care for patients of more extensive procedures, such as abdominoplasty.

Following tummy tuck surgery, you will be fitted with a compression garment and you will have dressings on your incisions. You will be encouraged to walk around to prevent the formation of blood clots. You will be walking upright with little difficulty in the first few days. You will have one or more surgical drains in place at the incision site to prevent the accumulation of fluid, which will be removed after a few days, along with the pain pump.

Most abdominoplasty patients can return to light activity and employment after about 10 to 14 days, and as swelling subsides, you will be able to show off your new, slimmer midsection. Back to Top
